The CCEF Taiwan wishes you the best for 2024 and the year of the dragon to come! Here are some updates and important news about the local economy and exchanges between Taiwan and France:

We ended the year with a lunch-meeting with Mr. Vincent Yanelle of BUREAU FRANCAIS DE TAIPEI who enlighted us about the upcoming Taiwan’s presidential and legislative elections (all the more useful since the general forecast proved accurate).

And here are some takes from our first monthly meeting of year 2024 :

– Taiwan 2023 GDP (1.4%) impacted by weaker exports (-10%) but trade surplus rising because of the decrease of imports (-18%); -Decrease of export of electronics (but growth for AI products) and of exports to China;

– After mangoes and grouper: concern arising from China’s cancellation of the ECFA preferential treatment of some petrochemical products;

– Still, hope for 2024: Consensus forecast >3 % GDP growth in year 2024;

– Presentation by Ms. Pauline Ravinet (“Attachée de coopération scientifique et universitaire at BUREAU FRANCAIS DE TAIPEI”) on French programs for Taiwan students.

As we navigate these developments, the CCEF Taiwan remains committed to fostering strong economic and educational ties between Taiwan and France, and we look forward to a year filled with growth, collaboration, and mutual success. Here’s to a prosperous 2024 and the Year of the Dragon!
